The story

How it came together

A Dehradun-based pharmaceutical company wanted to recognise its field force and plant teams in a single evening: 420 guests, 42 award categories, and medical representatives travelling in from across Uttarakhand, western Uttar Pradesh and Himachal. The previous year's ceremony had run past midnight, with dinner served cold and half the room gone before the top awards. The brief from the HR head was blunt — keep every winner, lose an hour, and make the people from the plant floor feel as seen as the regional sales leads.

We regrouped the categories into four segments by function, cut walk-up time with a winners' holding area stage-left and wrote a script that kept every citation under twenty-five words. Nominee films were shot at the plant and on field routes over three weeks. It was August, so we planned for rain: covered drop-off, umbrella runners at the porch and a buffer in the schedule for delegates driving down from the hills on wet roads.

It rained steadily through the arrival hour, and the evening started only eight minutes late. Awards ran for ninety-five minutes across four segments, with a Sufi band and a stand-up set between them. The final award went to a packing-line supervisor with twenty-two years at the company, and dinner opened while the room was still on its feet applauding her.

Highlights

The moments that made it

  1. 42 categories presented in 95 minutes across four segments grouped by function
  2. Nominee films shot on the plant floor and on field routes over three weeks
  3. A stage-left winners' holding area that cut each walk-up to under 30 seconds
  4. Covered arrivals and umbrella runners through a steady August downpour
  5. A Sufi band and a stand-up set placed exactly where the room's energy used to dip

“Last year half the room had left before the top awards. This year the plant team stayed until the last trophy, the citations were short enough that people actually listened, and dinner was hot. Our MD has already asked for the same team next August.”
